The troll gave us something to worry about, but in the end it was the goblin we had to fear most.
Learnings:
1. SAFETY
We had issues early on, failing our blitz, before picking ball up. It was safe, and covered, but there was pressure in later turns.
We had to pull players back to protect, and then create little 'safe pockets' using the mummies. Options for later.
2. RE ROLLS
I think we were prudent with our re roll usage. We ate the first failed block, but then had to re roll the 2nd dub skull as ball was not safe. **
The 3rd failed block (mummy double both down) was a little greedy, but an acceptable call.
** on that note, we could have moved the ball before throwing the block. Think on this for future.
3. SAFETY
On defence, we over commit. We apply big pressure to ball carrier, but do not leave a safety back. This allows hand off to goblin who ghosts through our line.
Lesson learned. Even big aggression must be tempered with some caution.
4. CHAIN PUSH
In T6 of 2nd half we had opportunity to chain push mummy onto goblin ball carrier for a 3db. BUT we fail to fill in the gaps to do so. Poor mistake, not clean, but live and learn.”
