SWL CII Conference- Game #4

There are demons in the SWL, but few compare to the beast we faced today. Liverpool Lass- a S4 blodge Dark Elf with horns and MB.

How on earth do you stop such a player? We certainly couldn't. Perhaps this is why the conference is named after her...

Learnings

1. TOSS

It was an unfortunate toss to lose, with us playing defence first. Had it been the other way around, where we were on attack and able to inflict damage, the result may have been more to our favour.

Defence set up was boat (urgh) with blodge ghouls to screen. Idea is, S6 claws blitz will make everything AV8, so may as well put the blodge in harms way and keep mummies and wights out of sight.

So basically, tempo and timing, and using it to advantage. We did not do this well.

2. DEFENCE

Like a leaky boat, we were sunk by the H1 touchdown. But why did we fail? We did lose a mummy in T2, which pretty much ended the game there.

However we did rally to the point where by T5 we are 10v8 and have sent the Minotaur to the reserves bench. SO how did we lose the drive?

In T4 i think we could have closed the sideline better by placing our sneaky ghoul there. This may have prevented the taking of space. But then again, we're looking at Ag2, S4, HORNS blitz...

3. ODDS

Poor calculations. We had 4 dice on the elf after re rolls. 51% chance did not come off. We had another 4 dice a turn later, which also did not come off. BUT...

The second sack attempt was poor. It was not easy to sack, but we chose to take a block instead of use a blitz.... poor choice where we did not see odds correctly.

The better play was to release a ghoul to assist via mummy block, then dodge out and double gfi our TACKLE wight. Odds here are 53% with RR. Then it would also have made the exit for the elf much tougher. This is perhaps where we lost the game?

4. SAFETY

I'm terrible at this. I left a 1db on the ball carrier as early as T2 of 2nd half (30% chance success with RR) then again at end of game (18% chance, but still...)

Need to get better. The SWL will punish this.

5. CRACK ON?

There was a thought- play for the draw or win? We were on the back foot from the beginning. If we could cause early attrition in the 2nd half, it was worth scoring early and attempting the turn over. I think...

I have heard it said that in league play, the draw is often the best option to play for. Safety first.

But what sealed the deal was two strong turns from the renegades, causing removals and key stuns. We really don't have the guts to do what it takes in the SWL.

Summary

The Canetoads could not overcome the might of the Renegades and their Liverpool Lass, and Minotaur sidekick.

We are now bloated like a canetoad left out in the sun for too long, and will be facing a series of mega star inducements and impending losses.

As the conference title slips away from us, perhaps we can shift focus towards the silver boot for most fouls. This seems a fun way to spend our final games.

There is nowhere to hide in the SWL. We shall light a candle and say a prayer to Nuffle.
