SWL CII Conference- Game #5

After careful calculations, we were relived to see a healthy Amazon TV where we would not face significant star player power.

Then came the Goblins...

Decimating our poor Amazon opposition in the match prior to ours, we faced a team without many key players, including a blodge, guardfensive, blocker.

Instead, we welcome our old friend Morg, and a new player we have not seen- Estelle with the 5 square gaze...

Learnings

1. Morg

Aside from what Morg does, his sheer presence changes the way we play. Our opening turn, we eschew a 3db from mummy on LOS, to blitz down Morg.

This allowed a counter blitz from Morg onto the tackle wight in base contact, causing immediate casualty (and regen).

Perhaps the old tactic of marking off with a lowly line zombie is better. At least the positional players remain safer.

This move also allowed an 18% (33% with RR) successful blitz on our ball carrier, which was not taken. Perhaps wise, as still early in drive, but best not give gifts such as these.

2. SEQUENCING

2nd Half T3 we made a mess of the ordering, and got confused over assists. Must sharpen up.

We are then fortunate to find Nuffle's blessing to sack and retrieve ball, but then position where we are able to be counter sacked. Poor turn, this one, and could have cost the game.

3. Side Step

A skill we have not used to full effect before. It has a place on defence, blodge-stepper tagging corners of cage, etc.

But we found great use in controlling sidelines. Particularly so in 2nd half, where we could bring play to the edge, and found the surf on the ball carrier.

Luck was required, but the 1db came through. It was the right play I think, and the ball throw in could not have been better for the Canetoads.

Summary

Nuffle smiled on us today, and our hopes of a conference title remain alive, even if it is only a small glimmer of hope.

Gillmeister was superb with 4x CAS, and pulled the team through in absence of brother Tallis. There is a chance of most blocks and most CAS for the league at end of season Twanhlows.

Alas, with only 3 fouls, Lockyer does not look able to compete against the goblins for most season fouls. Learning curve.
