We escaped being nearly out bashed by Underworld in the Southern Wastes. What a brutal environment it is.
Facing the overwhelming firepower of troll, bigger troll, and strong-as-troll orc, our mummies could not front up.
Instead, we picked on the little things with our tackle wights.
We ended the game being out-blocked 41 vs 35, and broke even on CAS with 3 a piece.
It leaves us to ponder... how is our bash oriented team meant to play in this environment?
Learnings
1. EXPOSED
I left mummy Webke very exposed, and he was targeted.
Furthermore, I used the newly acquired stand firm poorly, leaving him surrounded and susceptible to fouling.
We were lucky no removal came of it. In the end, playing into Guard troll, Ripper Bolgrot, and Varag, are any players ever safe when on front line?
Answer is probably not, but can do better on decision to use stand firm.
2. 1TT DEFENCE
Very tricky to defend against Underworld. Threat of traditional 1TT and then also the TTM.
We set our stand firm and side step ghouls on line. This could have resulted in nasty removals to key players.
We were lucky- the badly hurt Webke regenerated, one ghoul only stunned, and the other ghoul survived the onslaught.
In these League games, longevity must be considered. This game was not a critical one for the results table, and as Coach Tomay pointed out- the Canetoads have a premiership to fight for next season.
3. PROTECTION
T1 of 2nd half, on defence, I incorrectly position a zombie. It should be one square west.
This would protect mummy from a 2db from Varag, and blitz on a wight. Mistake was recognised as soon as turn ended. Small, but could have been critical.
4. STARS
Check the skills fo star players. It is our first time playing into Varag, and we know his stat line.
But what caught us by surprise was the jump up skill, and resulted in opportunity to sack the ball at end of game.
Check, and mark, for future.
Summary
Well, it may not have felt like it so much in game, but looking back to replay, we got quite lucky.
Coach Tomay is a master and multiple SWL champion. Nice sacks were found on our players, but rewarded with skulls.
Removals regenerated or found their way back to the pitch after KO, and our stubborn ghouls refused to miss a turn.
For now we can crack open the XXXX, but there will be a hangover to greet us one day soon if we continue to play as such. ”
