Ugly game, nauseating, as if we had spent the evening drinking bootlegged Cape brandy laced with embalming fluid.
Learnings
1. SKILLS
Schoolboy error. We did not mark the skills of the Ogres, missing the Guard skill on the LOS.
This forced us to open with a Troll block, which failed and costs a re-roll. Poor error, resulting in poor order of operations.
2. PROTECT
We failed to protect the ball to a nice level, before making another LOS block which fails, costing us another re-roll.
Had we protected better, we could have eaten the block fail. Another poor decision and order of operation.
3. SPREAD
Against Ogres, spread out, reduce ability to base multiple players.
Instead, in our opening turn, we converge on an Ogre, in the middle, to make a mathematically poor foul. AV was only reduced to 7.
This enabled the Ogres to easily base, then bash.
4) LINE CAGE
I underestimate the snots. Twice they found a 1d sack on us, the 2nd time being successful.
We must protect in a line. In T3 we attempted a bypass of the Ogre defence, but failed to succeed a 70% block.
As result we got stuck in the mud, bogged down, potato, and failed to score. Poor play mixed with fantastic Ogre play by Coach Fitz to exploit.
5) DEFEND
We were too aggressive to the ball. Maybe fine with elves or skavens, but we over commit, with limited numbers do to losing war of attrition, and Ogre ball carrier is unstoppable.
Best bet would be to get in the way. Column or something like this.
Summary
This should have been a loss. We were out coached and out positioned and out bashed.
Only a moment of poor luck for Ogres at end of 2nd half let us back in the game, then the luck to win toss in OT.
Undeserved, and team is decimated.
I think I have handled the NBL incorrectly, sprinkling skills across team rather than developing stat freak positionals which can change the game.
Also, the emphasis seems to be more on Cups, less on League. I have got this wrong too.”
