Final game for the season, and there was something to play for other than pride, with a win ensuring we avoid relegation.
Learnings
1. GIVE NOTHING
We need to learn not to engage and give free blocks. We did do this, even with mummies, and got punished.
Furthermore, we positioned so the orcs could 'hook blitz' players back into their teammates, generating extra blocks.
Learning is to position a little tidier.
2. SKILL
Despite planning to do so, we forgot to skill our blitzer with strip ball. For a premiership game, this could have made the difference.
We did have a -2db on the ball carrier with this player, however (un) fortunately there was a skull re-rolled into skull, so it did not matter.
But, we missed the opportunity to make a 69% (with re-roll) play to strip the ball carrier. Worth keeping in mind.
3. ORCFENCE
The Orc defence was great, staying narrow, holding middle, but with chevron style layers.
It enticed us to work to a sideline, or to engage. Neither were ideal strategies, but perhaps more patience was required.
Learning is to move slowly upfield, until the critical 'go time' is identified.
4. SCORING THREAT
Biggest mistake of game.
We failed a hand over action to get us in scoring range, however we could have positioned before the attempt- safe moves first- to have the option to do the same again next turn.
TBH, unlikely to have made a difference, but it is an opportunity missed, and good practice to make these opportunities.
Summary
We were quite lucky, managing to score on a 4+3+ series of dodges with dodge. It's a 66% chance a success, so still wide open to failing.
We have lost many games to human catchers doing this to us, so it was nice to see one work for us.
Another fun game where our skills dd actually come into play- the fouling, guard (albeit negated by more guard) and stand firm skills were handy. ”
