“This was what I suppose you'd call a dour midfield battle, finished off with an edge-of-the-seat comedy of errors ( on my part ) and make-or-break dice rolls. My huffing Longbeard Bing! just a single turn from the Stone Headers End Zone, their runner Harold Lightfoot skips out of two tackle zones, crosses the width of the pitch, makes 2 GFIs, and blitzes the ballcarrier. The ball pops loose into the crowd, who toss it back in amongst the scrum on the halfline, where a 'Headers longbeard grabs it, and passes it over the line of scrimmage to a blitzer in the clear.
Clutching the ball, the Blitzer charges for the line, 2 more GFIs leaving him 1 square short. My new runner, Future Legend, charges in hot pursuit, barely making the blitz and knocking both ball and opponent into the End Zone. Next turn, the Blitzer stands, blitzes my runner, and....stuns himself. A simple pick up and pass, and the danger is cleared. Desperate attempts to pass the ball into a scoring position in the last turn fail, and the teams leave the field honours even.
A greatly enjoyable game though, against a very pleasant coach. I look forward to a rematch! The 'Dogs will score eventually. It has to happen. Doesn't it?”
