As any afficianado of elf ball can tell you, when two elf teams meet the team with the better thrower has a decided advantage. In this case the Merry Folk had a nasty Strong Armed-Accurate thrower and our starting thrower niggled out leaving us with the rookie Hegel Merry (which also meant we were out numbered 12 to 10 to start the match).
It was quite a game, with the wood elves getting first advantage when we snake-eyed a roll, resulting in the woodies taking it away and scoring. A pitch invasion for our side evened things up a bit but casualties soon left us down again. We played much of the game 8 vs 10. Neither team could stop the other for quite some time until the woodies finally miss-threw a pass which quickly turned into a dark elf TD, making it 4-3 with 2 turns to go. Outnumbered but not disheartened, we lined up to try to stop the wood elf 2 turn machine. The Dominion fans took this as thier cue to invade the pitch of course, and we were down 2 more elves just like that. The woodies poured through our lines and we watched hopelessly ...we'd had so little luck stopping them all game, what were the chances that we could hold them off with only 6 elves?
This time was to be a bit different however...the woodies were out of re-rolls and for once we managed to knock down the wardancer (first time all half, I believe). We pinned their catcher and a linemen with our 2 witch elves and hoped for the best. And what do you know? On that final turn mighty Specious Rhetoric side-stepped around a block and made the diving tackle on the poor wood elf catcher who had managed to pull down the catch in a tackle zone.
I would say this was a great game, but it was spoiled a bit by the mutual loss of Fan Factor.
Ah well, thanks for the game Peke!
