“This was a lesson in futility. Pouring rain made it virtually impossible for my rats to do ANYTHING ball-related. Managed all of 2 pickups game long; one pass completion out of at least 8 or 9 attempts; even failed to pick up the darn ball in the endzone! First half, managed to steal the ball from him fairly easily, but then we ended up trading the ball back and forth every turn til end of the half, when he finally held onto it for an entire turn and scored.
Second half, the only reason I have the ball at all is from a touchback, although a pitch invasion levels his entire side of the pitch, stunning all but 3 elves. Cakewalk to score, right? It would be, if that flippin rain didn't make me fumble the ball! I guess it's my fault--instead of simply hanging onto the ball and running it in over 3 turns, brilliant me tries to get spp's and skills on multiple players by passing the ball around. Except the rain! Of course the ball drops, and his elves are able to dodge around like elves and pick up the ball in multiple tz's in the rain, whereas I can't in the open. *rolls eyes* Knock the ball loose (again), it falls into the endzone, all I have to do is step on it to score, right?
Except the rain!!! Surround the ball with multiple players all around, so if it does bounce I have guys there. But it bounces out of bounds, who throw it back in the far side of the pitch, where there are elves but not rats! Only some desperate running and superior speed allowed us to catch up to him, eventually reclaiming the ball once more. But he's getting all the pows in the world on 1d blocks, picking up the ball all the time (fortunately for me usually with his blitzer, so he's unable to advance the ball by throwing that turn, giving me a turn to respond first). Eventually, he FINALLY failed a dodge, giving me one last shot to score...if I can hang onto the ball...amazingly enough, I do, and am able to score the draw!
More pathetic winnings, but at least no loss of fans this game. Guess this serves me right for the pummelling I dished out to my last opponent, to find every ball control roll a failure. Also the first game I haven't scored at least one cas, but it's all good. Two more skills, a draw, no new injuries. We'll improve in the rain, and we'll be back for more!”
