“A thrown rock seemed to indicate that I'd be lucky but that feeling soon evaporated. A lot of rather poor dice made life truly miserable for my undead beings.
Constantly I pinned his 2 bulls and 3 Chaos Dorfs with zombies, effectively neutralising them for the most of the time. That worked. What did not work is getting rid of the 5 hobgobs. I either did not get them down or if I did I failed to break armour.
When I tried a hand-off in the 6th turn of the first half to my wight whom had 5 spp's (thus earning him a skill) the stupid wight failed to catch it. Despite re-roll of course. To make matters worse the ball scattered back to the ghoul whom failed to catch it also and then the ball ended up away from my created 'safe zone'
In the end I could score anyway but it was too close for comfort.
With a mere 2 turns left and no re-rolls the Chaos Dwarfs could not even come close to scoring a 1-1 in the first half.
2nd half; his drive.
With some neat blocks I managed to free up a mummy whom could blitz the ball-carrying hobgob. (with 2 gfi''s, no less!)
The ball scattered to the crowd, sailing back to a spot where my (sure-hands) ghoul could reach it.
And I thought I was home free.
Boy, I was wrong.
He blitzed with a bull and knocked the ghoul over (burning his last rr though) and surrounded the ball with a few of his players.
I did the same but when he mis-clicked (!) a Chaos Dwarf moved to the ball and picked it up (in 3 tackle-zones!) on a 6. then handed it off to the bull. Whom promptly dodged and scored 1-1.
All without a re-roll to back it up! (doh)
I felt truly robbed with only 2 turns left and one wight KO.
A touchback allowed me to give the ball to my remaining wight whom rushed (well; 6 squares that is) to the endzone. In the mean time my zombies shambled to the opponents; pinning as many of them as possible.
Then the luck turned. In order to free up one of his hobgobs he blocked with his minotaur (he had no rr anyway!) and promptly rolled skull/pow and skull. Both down and turnover. My wight grinned a ghastly smile and did not trip over his feet.
(maybe because I had that re-roll anyway?)
Third match in a row did the fans love it.
Good winnings too.
