“This game was Dig Dug's 100th game. Although there are many things to be happy about, this game was tinged with a small amount of sadness; Gamil Zirak, our sole remaining player from all those games ago, finally reached 76 SPP and aged in the process. Add that to the niggle that Maxon picked up at the same hurdle after our last game, and it seems that the heart of our aged team will soon be but a memory. New faces will undoubtedly step up and assume the mantle of responsibility, but we will be sorry to see them retire....WHEN they retire.
Anyway, this was a win, and one that we needed quite badly. Although we've only lost one of our last 5, it has seemed at times that we have been out of our depth. This match was both solid and predictable, which is really the best thing for Dwarf teams as they dont respond well to surprises.
The Skullcrushers were receiving in the first half, and from the outset we put them under a lot of pressure. We caused a few injuries, and managed to knock the ball to ground. After a few scuffles, Horan managed to pick the ball off the floor and gave himself some space. It was then up to the rest of the team to keep the opposition under check until he went over for 1-0.
Second half, and Horan again found himself with the ball. He managed to break through the ruck, and after setting a screen for him, one of the ST4 Longbeards managed a 5+, 4+ dodging blitz on the Runner through quite a few tackle zones! Thankfully Óin was on hand to tidy up and, although the LB managed to set a hand on his jersey, he was able to go over for 2-0; game over.
Sometimes Dwarves can be a tad monotonous, but this game had a few surprises here and there. We always felt in control, but it was a tough match, none the less.
Player of the game: Dorin managed two casualties, which effectively gave us space to manouver in a tight midfield.”
