“The Squeakers were in trouble before the match even started when one of their star player Gutter Runners Kwikkwik pulled up sore from a niggling injury before the game, whilst the Seniors had a full squad despite having several players nursing old wounds (I failed 1 from 3 niggles, he made all 7 rolls!!!).
The Squeakers put their heads down and scored the first TD halfway through the first quarter, taking their time to avoid the dangerous players on the Seniors team who could steal the ball. After scoring, the Squeakers then played tough defence to stretch the Seniors across the field, forcing a difficult long bomb pass (after reroll used to GFI into range) to avoid a potential turnover, however, Linerat Thsqueach Bladetail was in the right place at the right time and made a surprise interception!
The plucky little line rat then ran upfield, sprinting to come into short pass range to Sneakkwik but misthrew the ball! The ugly pass was way off mark, but close enough to the Gutter Runner Thanquol who caught the ball despite the attention of a Seniors tackler!
Sneakkwik seeing the ball had floated past him had run deep from near the line of scrimmage to the end zone, and it was an easy task for Thanquol to dodge a tackler and hand the ball off to his team mate for a 2-0 lead shortly before the end of half time!
However, the Squeakers team were down to 9 players to face the Seniors 12 as Redwood No Root had accounted for Squeakers Storm Vermin Klawth with his first block of the game, and a linerat had also been taken out early by the Seniors.
The second half started with the Seniors knocking out another Squeakers player and scoring a difficult TD due to the intense pressure by the vastly outnumbered linerats.
The Squeakers started with 7 players against the Seniors in offence, and soon found themselves down to 6 when their Rat Ogre Fleshtearer was badly hurt the very first time he had been blocked the whole game!
Despite this, the speedy Gutter Runners from the Squeakers team spread out, and dodged their way into a position to throw a short pass TD and take the score to 3-1 with only time left for the Seniors to score one TD in reply.
And score they did, but again it was very close as the Squeakers again played pressure defence and forced the Seniors to try a diffcult long bomb.
--------------------
A fun and very tight game. That interception followed by a missed pass that scattered onto my Gutter Runner who caught it and effected a score was one very luck passage of play that won me the game as it gave me a 2-0 lead near the end of the first half.
It was very very tight in the second half when I was down to 6 players and a turnover by me would allow him to equal the score, but the Gutter Runners pulled through.
This makes up for the game I had a couple of days later where the dice really screwed me and caused me to play for a draw when I thought I originally had a great chance to win LOL.”
