“Apos were drunk in this match for both teams (well, ok, I didn't use mine on Sugah, as it was still way early in the match for a rookie linewoman, but I'm sure it'd fail if tried, it was that kind of game...). It was also a lesson in futility, esp when a rainstorm hit as the second half opened with my ladies receiving.

But first things first--he takes the ball, and knowing he's outnumbered he plays conservatively, holding the ball way back deep, hoping to free up somebody in the middle. However, when he double-fails his dodge away, my ladies were close enough to blitz his ballboy and take the ball for an early score. He scores easily enough next few turns, and then I manage to get a very tense score to end the first half, requiring a very timely POW on his blodging/sidestepper next to my ballgirl.

Second half I'm receiving, up 2-1, and the rain hits. Not good for agi 3 w/o surehands, eh? I'm able to pickup the ball first try, but the handoff to advance it fails despite rr. I'm flabbergasted--I didn't have to use a single rr all first half, so this is new! His super-dragon (ok, only two skills, but compared to rookie amazons...) fancy-dodges through my line, picks up the ball, and dodges away again, looking for an easy score...until I get yet another lucky POW on him, this time knocking him out of the game completely! Woot! Still can't pick up the ball because of the blasted rain, and what ensues is an entire half of trying to keep his elves away from the ball while simultaneously failing to pick it up. At one point I FINALLY pick it up, only to have him blitz and knock us both down on a pow/skull, ball's loose again. Eventually, outmanning him almost 2-1 allows me to pick up the ball in safety and start to advance it away from his elves. I have one linewoman who's been downfield, calling for the ball for an easy score; all I have to do is get it to her.

GFI: fine! Short pass: fine! Catch of pass: Oops...bounce, bounce, bounce...catch of bounce: FINE! I didn't realize the sequence until after setting up for the game-ending kickoff--I'd thought I'd completed the pass! Either way, I score for emphasis, and he just calls it a game rather than risk more blocks/blitzes with no rr or apo.

Frustrating game for my opponent--was supposed to be a recovery match, but ended up losing a very expensive lion instead. Hope he has luck recovering down the line...”
