“Masterwizkid has held onto the lead in the Bare Bones tourney for the past two weeks, which is quite a feat considering the handicapping method. I have to salute him for a well-played game and a well-played tourney so far.

Now I just need to catch him. =) This was a good start.

The first half started with a good drive by the undead and an eventual score. Somehow, I managed to setup a really nice return and ended the half tied at one.

The second half I received and started with a touchback. Perfect. A Blitz! for mwk put a bit of a damper on things, but I was still in good shape... until I got stupid and blew it. I had my ballcarrier in good position, but completely without support due to some stupid blocking. MWK blitzed me and snagged the ball. I pulled off a decent play to send him surfing for his efforts, but the crowd threw the ball right back into mid-field and out of my reach...

... until a wildly lucky play, that is. Dodge with a skeleton to go pickup the ball in a TZ (with sure hands) and handoff to another skeleton. I'd already used my team RR, so I didn't expect it to work - I would have been happy with a lucky bounce - but somehow it did. Put me in a good spot to eventually get to the goal line, under cover on turn 7... where I promptly hoarded the ball and stalled for a turn to avoid getting smacked down by those two mummies again and giving the ghoul a chance to work his magic for a tie.

Thanks again for the game, MWK. Sorry for the stall but given our spots in the tourney thus far, I just had to play it safe.

ps. As a side note, this game finally broke my streak. In this team's first 4 games, I had racked up 14 BHs, 0 SI and 0 RIP. If only all my teams could do that. On the bright side, the SI was a niggled ghoul - and positional players are a huge asset in this tourney, so I'm relatively pleased by that, since I'll undoubtedly face him again in the KO afterwards.”
