“A fair day at the Angashad and following the starting kick-off Angashad’s thrower Clark Longheart quickly found himself with the ball behind an effective array of lineman who repeatedly pushed back the dark elf line. That was until Darkland’s witch elf Morwen found a crack in the line and blitzed through to pop a hit on the human thrower. A series of fumbles and recoveries later by both Longheart and Morwen, and the dark elf ended up with the ball next to a prone Longheart. A short jog into the end zone, and a fine solo touchdown for the witch elf. Darkland up 1-0.

The weather turned very sunny, not boding well for the subterranean dark elves. Kicking off towards the humans, they followed up by creating a crack in the offensive line through which captain and blitzer Gorgoth broke through, quickly followed by the witch elf Morwen. Gorgoth blitzed straight into thrower Wayne Hill’s face, who in turn panicked and tried a quick pass off towards Mikey Anderson, a pass that would never arrive. Put off my Gorgoth’s assault, Anderson passed awkwardly and Morwen who was following her captain leaped up and plucked the ball from the air. Again she jogged somewhat calmly into the end zone. Darkland, via Morwen, now 2-0 up.

Following the kick-off catcher Mikey Anderson received the ball from a touchback, and simply raced up field as time began to expire on the first half. Through a hole in the Darkland line opened up by successful human blocking, he closed quickly on the Darkland end zone, but the dark elves raced quickly back and boxed him, and the first half expired.

The second half kicks off, and an Angashad blitz largely fails as the dark elves hold their line. Thrower Mormegil collects balls with the elder dropping back to form an offensive line pocket about him. Captain Gorgoth breaks several tackles trying to get open, before luck ran out on the last dodge, and he went down and knocked out cold. Almost forgotten again, two score heroine Morwen then suddenly looks ready to break free so the humans put two lineman and two catchers on her, attempting and failing to put her down, before she dances away from all of them, to find herself wide open near the end zone. Mormegil rolls out of the pocket, spots the free witch elf and launches a long pass off to her, only to find himself completely blinded by the now brilliant sun and fumbling the ball at his feet. Human catcher Phil Denton quickly scoops up the fumble and before anyone can react he races unhindered half the pitch straight into the end zone. Angashad coming back, 2-1.

Down to ten players Darkland get a touchback from the kick-off, Mormegil gets given the ball as Gorgoth breaks down the left sideline. Mikey Anderson breaks through the dark elf line on a blitz and gets straight into the dark elf thrower’s face. Morwen sees this and races back, laying a pair of hits on Mikey Anderson, going down herself but putting the human catcher on the bench badly hurt. After a shockingly bad game so far, human blitzer Dan Gump finds himself following up Anderson’s blitz, only to fall flat on his face and be stretchered off, also badly hurt. Gorgoth lays a hit on last man defender Wayne Hill and races into the end zone to wait for his thrower… who sees his captain open in the end zone and rolls out wide left, sprints to get into extreme long range and loft another long pass down field. But once more, blinded by the sun he fumbles the ball at his feet. Again fumbling again as he attempted to pick the ball up, whilst humans all around him scramble for the ball only to fall themselves, he eventually scoops the ball up and dances forward, ignoring the sun this time to hit the dark elf captain in the end zone with a finally complete long pass. Touchdown Gorgoth, Darkland now 3-1 up.

Game ends directly from the following kick off. Some would say Morwen was the undisputed heroine of the game with a brace of touchdowns, an interception, and a casualty to her name, but instead vice captain and thrower Mormegil picks up the honours.”
