“An all dark elf match up that always looking like it was going to be a match up between the Cavernkillers heavy blitzing style vs. Darkland’s somewhat more skilled aerial artistry.
Directly from the word go Darkland was put under the cosh of a rapidly filling injury list. Gorthaur and Nardol were badly hurt almost immediately, whilst freebooter Voronwe was knocked out, quickly followed by Guldur also losing consciousness moments later. However, not yet in possession of the kick-off the Cavernkillers line attempted to hold a strong centre punch from Darkland, eventually giving way as captain Gorgoth, star rookie Morwen, and Gormegil blitzed up the centre and straight into Ahien Chaossailor’s face, who had only just recovered the kick-off. Gorgoth pushed him back almost into his own end zone, whilst Morwen and Gormegil closed in on him also, all trying to put him off, and it looked like only a matter of time before he went down alone at the back and losing the ball and a defensive score. However, he heroically held off all three rampant players, and even though Morwen leapt to intercept, he took a leaf from Darkland’s book and hit a sweet long pass to blitzer Ukasi Barddancer. By this time Darkland was so advanced into the Cavernkillers backyard there was no-one downfield to defend, and Barrdance easily ran unhindered into the end zone scored. Cavernkillers 1-0 up.
Down to eight players for the kick off Darkland never the less started positively, with Mormegil hooking up with Morwen on a long pass straight from kick-off, with Morwen then breaking free down the right side of the pitch for a sure touchdown as time expired on the half. A lucky escape for the Cavernkillers.
Still with eight players for the start of the second half, facing a full strength Cavernkillers, the kick-off went straight into the Darkland front line. A panicked back pass went amiss, but was eventually recovered by Mormegil. Morgaur joined the ever growing injury list, as Herumor struck back for Darkland by killing Arerikin Beaktaker. Back to the ball, and Morwen broke free through the line, Mormegil rolled out right and lofted a mid-distance pass over the scrum in the centre which Morwen pulled down and then raced off downfield, dodging a couple of tackles before scoring her third touchdown in two games. Darkland back on an even footing, 1-1.
The dying moments of the game were ugly. Injuries building on both sides, and Ivuil Highpacer avenged the Cavernkillers by killing brutal Herumor who had not only killed Arerikin Beaktaker, but had been fouling all second half. Several missed passes, and fumble recoveries, and the centre of the pitch bad become a mess of odd fights and failed ball advances. Morwen briefly had the ball and looked like she may rush in for a score, but was taken down at the last moment, stunned, then knocked out by a gaggle of fouling Cavernkillers.
The game ended 1-1, with both teams all but limping bloody and battered from the field. Anire Grimcarver picked up the Cavernkillers MVP for his two casualties, whilst Darkland thrower Mormegil collects his second MVP in consecutive games for his brace of completed passes.”
