“3rd time lucky I hoped. After 2 sever drubbings the last 2 rounds vs these delfs. Alas, all things considered the game was even.
First things first; i had 2 excellent handicaps; iron Wolf and Morley's revenge affecting 3 (!) of his players. Unfortunately for me it never took out more than 1 player each drive. (with a 3-3 score pretty good going for the delfs)
1st half; he receives and the elves even had to seat it out a little but in their 3rd turn they scored. For a second it seemed as if the elf stumbled but he managed to go the extra yard. Twice.
I receive and after a feint to my left flank he slightly overextends himself and cannot properly swing his defense around when the Necro's rushed to their right. Scored in my 5th turn. With 3 KO elves and Morley's I hoped to get the ball. And I had my chance in the 7th turn; 1D blitz on the ball-carrier but I pushed which was no good vs an elf. The RR showed a skull. KO to boot. (cursed be Nuffle!) He scores in his 8th turn. Or rather; strolls at a leisurely pace to the endzone waving at the crowd. :(
2nd half he can field 10 elves but a perfect defense bludgeoned my flawless (he he, I wish) plans into a smoking ruin. In my 4th turn I score nonetheless. With a modicum of luck if I might add, or rather; no bad luck. Score is even again with 4 turns to go for the two of us.
9 elves now. Prayed to all kinds of foul necromantic Gods but no blitz or perfect defense. A quicksnap. (grrr) A lot of pressure left the elves with no choice but to try the riskier and flashier stuff. And thus they did. Dodging like immaterial ghosts, ignoring tackle-zones they built a make-shift cage, ready to score the turn after. My blitz to open a gap and pour my overwhelming numbers of dead things all over and around the ball carrier failed. Skull again at a VERY bad moment.
3-2 with only 2 turns to score.
Breaking through with only 9 opposing elves was easy enough and they tried to cover all potential scorers but their best chance was in the ag5 pass-blocker with catch.
Whom failed.
(sigh with relief for once instead of frustration)
3-3 in a very exciting game vs an opponent I love to play next round.
Some day I will beat those elves!
