The Backstab Gang and Hel's Disciples battled it out for possession of first place last night. The Backstab Gang received the opening kickoff and began their drive down the field. Midway through the first half, it appeared as though the Disciples might have foil BG's attempt to score with a well placed block against the ball carrier, but the loose ball bounced into the hands of Lord Haw Haw, who quickly dodged out for the first score of the game.
Hel's Disciples took the ensuing kickoff down the field and by turn 8 found themselves in the same straights as the previous week, with a ball carrier in range of the end zone requiring a GFI. Last week the GFI failed but this week the Norns (fates) sided with HD and Ingimann was able to make it into the end zone to knot it up at 1 apiece.
In the second half, the norsemen were able to recover from early ball control issues and by turn four had started to take control. By turn seven, only seven BG players were still on the field, and Dagr was able to run it in for a score to take a 2-1 lead. Things did not look good for the Backstab Gang, but the Norns quickly turned against Hel's Disciples (apparently Hel must have upset them greatly somehow). On the kickoff, the fans rushed the field and all but four of the Disciples were stunned. The Gang moved quickly down the field and set themselves up for a turn 8 score. The Disciples had one last chance. With a two die block from a frenzied Dagr, all the Disciples needed was a pushback to knock the ball loose and make a turn 8 score difficult for BG. The first results were double pow/skulls and knowing this would not get it done against Ethel Rosenberg (with block skill), the coach used up his final re-roll. The result - Double Skulls. Dagr went down and Ethel went on to score the game tying touchdown on turn 8. Final score 2-2.”
