“Just one thing to say to my team after this game: WHERE THE HELL DID THAT PERFORMANCE COME FROM? These gits can’t do crap in regular Ranked play! It may have been their head coach’s constant berating of the team as having ‘no chance’ during the days leading up to the match…
Or perhaps it was brutal vengeance? The game started out with me making a blundering tactical error resulting in a one die Blitz by Sluggo during a BLITZ! Turn against unusually strong opposing Beastman Jerac Eradush. Jerac took a step back and laughed darkly at Sluggo’s miscalculation – then wasted little time charging SlaughterHouse’s star ball carrier Buck…and killing him! The team doctor managed to get Buck’s heart pumping again, and Sluggo’s face turned bright red (both from the blood splatter and from embarrassment) – if he’d only hit Jerac harder at the starting whistle, it might not have happened…
Sluggo vowed revenge, and quickly retaliated, breaking the only remaining vertebrae in Jerac’s neck (3 x –AG injuires?? Yeow!). Emboldened by the success of this brutal hit, the rest of the team gave each other a look that said ‘we’ve gotta come through – just this once – just to show the coach we can!’
And so they did.
Hit after hit, they took down Yetzerhara's players, laying them out, smashing through breastplates and pounding hard on skulls, spraying blood and cracking ribs. One by one the Yetzerhara line and backfield left the pitch, either knocked unconscious or injured too badly to continue (although even the numerous KO’s proved to be quite severe – with only one recovering in time to see active play). As the opposing numbers dwindled, it got easier, and Slaughterhouse refused to give up momentum, even taking out opposing players on their own turn, as Yetzerhara’s desperate blocks were turned cruelly against their own players.
In the end, only three Yetzerhara’s players were left, two pinned prone on the sideline by a host of Slaughterhouse’s troops, and one midfield, cut off and tripped up by the teams Troll and a pair of beastmen flankers. As the clock wound down, it was Buck – who had nearly met his fate early in the game – who scored the winning touchdown, and earned himself MVP for surviving and triumphing (actually scoring both of Slaughterhouse’s touchdowns for the match)!
Thanks for the match dertre, I know how much it sucks to spend days trying to schedule a match, then get hideously abused by the dice when it finally happens (see my XFL Skaven semifinal for details…*grumble*). It was a good effort – indeed I didn’t think I had a chance in Hell of winning, but when the dice are with you, the dice are with you.
Good luck with your team in the future! And don’t worry – I’ll never survive the next round of XFL Chaos…have you seen my likely opponent? ;) ”
