“The first game in the KO Shield. After their first game, KD were a man down but cash rich, and so hired the star Grishnak Blacktooth - he turned out to be an inspired signing, KILLING Bull(dozer) the opposing Minotaur in revenge for badly hurting one of the Bull Centaurs. Hiring a star was always going to be a mixed bag though - you don't get the benefits after that game, after all, and so he departed, a bulging sack of gold on his back and a couple of heads in the sack at his side, whistling as he went...
Back to the game...
At first the Norse were surprisngly resistant to injury, then the weather turned bad, and their luck with it. Already suffering from 'Doom and Gloom' because of their superior team, their attempts to pick up the ball were painful to watch, and so the Chaos Dwarves charged down the field, scooped the ball up, and scored.
Twice in the first half.
In the 2nd half, things went a little better for the Norse, their morale improved, and they formed a box for the ball. Unfortunately, they got bogged down, and then found themselves being outblocked by a stronger side (1 BC, 2 mino, more players on the field) which thinned their numbers. The hobgoblins Hobbles Gobble and Nobble pretty much had a field day, having had little or no attention from the Norse, and so ran in a third touchdown.
Coach Meetgrinder was admittedly regretting his move to crowdsurf one of the Norse, especially seeing as the game had been so clean, but he'd seen his luck change dramatically in games lately, so found he'd little choice but to take advantage. When the Norse set up again, they were few in number, and the game ended with them 3-0 down, and having taken a bit of a hiding.
Lasseman is a good coach and a good sport - I could see what he was trying to do, but the dice pretty much fell short every time. With AV7 it was only going to be a matter of time (I hoped) until it started to tell, and when it did... ouch! 3 dead, a number in the KO box and one Badly Hurt from the 'Surf. I've had exactly the same kind of luck with Norse - i.e. none - and found they get injured easily, as they spend most of their time blocking, which inevitably works really well, or not at all (as in this case). Better luck for you next time I hope!
