It's not often a player's death forces me to do some introspection and look at my worth as a coach, but this was of those rare players that only comes along very scarcely.
I knew his death would come, the life of a snot is but an eye blink and I knew that his would be a glorious one. To die flying as far as the throw or even kick could carry him with the ball in hand, or even to take one for the team on a last minute hand-off. That would've been worthy, filling a need for a drive, there is no greater purpose for a snot and that's the way it should have been.
This was no such death...this was the result of my own personal vendetta I held against a team I have hated since nearly the beginning. When the Chorfs began their Ogre wrecking and the slippery slope of my patience had at last been eroded away, I wanted nothing more than to break at least one more of them. My choice for the final turn was a Blodging Minotaur of all things.
They had chased Barf all across the pitch after the rest of my team had been disposed of. An opportunity came for Barf's foul in the 2ht7 and I prayed for the ejection but to no avail. During the final turn, chances were good he could have escaped with no Tackle players to bother him and since it was 0-0 I doubt a re-roll would've been used on any blitz taken against him.
But by this point I was already seeing red, and like a fool I wasted the best snot I ever had on 3 useless GFIs. Not even for a TTM touchdown either, just a lousy assist for a 2d block on a Blodging Minotaur in the dying seconds of a doomed game. Three 1s were rolled on that entire sequence and Nuffle struck him down thanks to my petty grudge.
We had lost this one, I should have accepted it. But many more victories would have been possible had I not lost this guy due to such a foolish and bloodthirsty endeavor. You deserved to be standing proudly with us for a good bit longer Barf, and your death should have been a glorious one.
This was not it, and may it remind me that the win should always come first...even if it is a future one.
