Full name
Cobblia “Laceweaver” Schoenmakers, Tinker of Soles
Bio
Once upon a time there lived a poor girl in the Marienburg slums. The girl’s mother died while giving birth to her only daughter. The other kids in the Marienburg slums used to make fun of the little girl. They called her 'pointy' for the large and pointy ears she had. She learned to cope with the bullies by running faster than anyone else, climbing better than anyone else, and hiding better than anyone else.
The girl’s father was a cobbler. Her father’s father had been a cobbler before that. The father named his child ‘Cobblia’ out of love for his profession. Already at a young age our protagonist learned everything about cobbling a young girl could ever be wanting to know. She did not go to school. She did not learn to read or write. She did not learn poetry or arts. Cobbling was her life. And a poor life it was. Several years passed. Years in which Cobblia grew up to be a woman. A woman that was an expert in shoe making and was destined to take over her father's shop and let it flourish.
On a rainy Sunday afternoon two soaking wet figures appeared in the cobbler’s workshop. It was a strange couple of people, an unlikely pair. One tall and arrogant Elf, named Ulrandir, accompanied by a jesting and tinkering Gnome. The Gnome showed Cobblia a marvellous invention. She could not believe her eyes! A shoe that sticked very firmly to metal objects, and could even be placed upside down on the ceiling without falling! The Gnome explained that this ‘magic’ was in fact caused by a magnetite stone embedded in the sole of the shoe. These magnetite shoes were used by the Marienburg Magnetite top-foulers
Simimar Glynqen and
Aymon Ianzeiros. The Gnome asked Cobblia if she wanted a tinker job on the side, to repair the damaged shoes after each match. She became the official Marienburg Magnetite’s “Tinker of Soles”.
She was no longer poor: Her new profession offered a good and steady income for her and her dad. She even had the luxury of spare time to spend in the weekends! Her regular customers Simimar and Aymon started to teach her some of the finer forms of art: Painting, quilting, knitting, sewing and weaving. She turned out to be very talented! She soon started to use her new skills on the shoes she was repairing. She excelled in creating wondrous patterns with the shoelaces. Out of jest, Simimar and Aymon sometimes called her “Laceweaver”, in tribute to one of the best blood bowl players the CIBBL universe has ever witnessed:
Lashweaver Taker of Souls. She cobbled on, happy with her nickname and her profession, until disaster struck.
Cobblia awakened from the alarm bells ringing on the city walls. But danger did not come from beyond the walls... danger came from within or, more precisely, from
beneath the city. A skaven raiding party from the nearby skaven lair Bitter Stump entered the slums through the various tunnels of Under-Marienburg. People were screaming and running, trying to protect their valuables and their lives. Her home, her cobbling workshop got destroyed. Her father was murdered and lay dead on the street. She would surely have been dead as well, if she not had been so inventive and dextrous. Quickly she took two pair of Magnetite shoes, walked straight up the metal rainwater pipes, and fled away from the slaughter, into the safety of nearby Elftown.
In Elftown, Cobblia met again with Ulrandir. Ulrandir shared with her a long lasting family secret about her mother. It turned out her mother had been an Elf from Elftown, from the clan Lianllach. Twenty years ago she fell in love with a poor cobbler, Cobblia’s father, and gave birth to Cobblia as only child. Cobblia was sad to have lost her father and her cobbling workshop. But she was happy to have found back her Elven relatives. She remained to be the team’s formal Tinker of Soles. But it was no longer her main profession. Nowadays she is found on the pitch, weaving beautiful patterns with the ball in the air, and weaving beautiful patterns with her dodges through enemy lines. All opposing defenders fear her speed, but skaven fear her the most. For when she blitzes a skaven blood bowl player, she loudly screams “FOR MY FATHER THE COBBLER!” and strikes with double speed and double strength.
