Elvis, otherwise known as "The King", has sold more than one billion records worldwide, more than any individual or group in record history. In 1995, RCA and the Recording Industry of America (RIAA) awarded Elvis 110 gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums and singles, the largest presentation of gold and platinum records in history.
Elvis died at the age of 42 of cardiac arrhythmia at his Graceland mansion. Not letting his popularity die with him, the country celebrated the 20th Anniversary of his death at Graceland by re-releasing numerous albums and kicking off a seven-day festival this past August. A highlight of the festivities included an Elvis impersonation contest. Among the 35,000 impersonators around the world, 80 competed in the finals, with some traveling as far as Israel and Croatia.
Originally, Elvis bought Graceland for a $100,000, now it brings in more than 15 million annually. Graceland sees more than 700,000 visitors per year, more than any other home in America except the White House. The white-columned mansion and 14-acre estate receives an annual income estimated at $75 million.
