Karlson was the type that loved to be in the thick of things. He gained his nickname from the fact that he preferred a close guard around him. He wanted to be able to see the opponents closing in before they were bashed away. Also, he especially liked it when he had the chance to lend a hand himself. He was never too scared to take over for a downed lineman and run interference himself, once the receivers were away.
Sadly, these admirable traits also became his undoing. In a match against some drunken, unshaven, barbarians, he got a little too close to the opposition. He was left cut off from the rest of the team, the boots started stomping, and the rest, as they say, is history.
