Comment: Wow. I didn't realize I had read so many of his books until I made this list. Anyway, Lawrence Watt-Evans greatest facet is that he recognizes that drama is not necessary to a good story (mind you, that doesn't mean he ignores it). Instead, he typically captivates your attention using bizarre, entertaining problems.
There is a downfall to this approach though. As a reader, you don't acquire an attachment to his characters that many popular writers accomplish. I would attribute this to why I've never heard somebody discuss his books beyond my father. Nevertheless, he is one of my favorite authors, and I'll be damned if I didn't give him a premium spot on my team.
