Nicolò Copernico fu un astronomo polacco che sviluppò la teoria dell'eliocentrismo. Fu anche un Canonico, un giurista, un governatore, un astrologo ed un medico. La sua teoria - che propone il Sole al centro del sistema di orbite dei pianeti componenti il sistema solare - ribaltò dopo 1400 anni la teoria tolemaica geocentrica, ed è considerata una delle più importanti scoperte di tutta la storia dell'iuomo, oltre che il fondamento dell'astronomia moderna.
