One of the brothers of the Order of Franciscan friars, Saint Anthony lived during the time of Saint Francis at the beginning of the 13th century. He lived only to age 35, dying of a disease now known as St Anthony's Fire.
Anthony was known for passionate moving sermons. He is the patron saint of lost articles due to forgetting his psalter book. It was stolen, but returned by the thief who felt an overwhelming urge to come forth and return it after Anthony prayed for its return.
