Rip is the coaching staff's way of getting around the "4 Blitzer" rule. The coaches were grooming him for a spot as one of the team's blitzers before they realized they didn't HAVE to. They just labeled him a Lineman. Either way he can play. Tossing the ball, scoring TDs, breaking heads....he can pretty much do it all. But his main focus is to get dirty in the scrum and make sure no one gets punchy.
