Arkansas Black is a hardy, late maturing, variety. Typically harvested in mid October, this extremely beautiful, firm round apple has a smooth waxy skin that is deep purplish in color that turns nearly black at maturity. With a coarse texture and very tart flavor this crisp, juicy, yellow fleshed apple is best used for fresh eating and processing (sauce, pies, baking). It's distinctive aromatic flavor lends itself well to cider blending.
