In 1998, Jared Fogle, a 6-foot-2 junior at Indiana University, was tipping the scale at a whopping 425 pounds. After several failed attempts to shed the flab, Fogle decided to give Subway sandwiches a try. He started eating a 6-inch turkey sub--without mayo and cheese--plus a bag of chips and a diet cola for lunch. For dinner, he wolfed down a 12-inch veggie sub--also without mayo or cheese--and another diet cola. With the exception of a cup of coffee each morning, Fogle kept up this stupefyingly bland routine for an entire year--and lost 245 pounds.
Today, Fogle has a new mission--to help others avoid the pain and suffering of obesity. He travels around the U.S. shooting commercials and making speeches. Fogle still eats at Subway, but thankfully, he is spicing it up a bit. The Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sub is his current fave.
