As co-captain of the team (his brother being the other), he feels it is his responsibility for the team to be successful. Although, he is reserved around others, on the pitch, he steps up and becomes the undisputed leader. He feels guilty that he and his brother were kicked out of their hometown (he has a surprising amount of emotion for an orc) and will do anything it takes to get back. He is part of the original team (of course!).
After the first game, Knucklebone was successful. He called all the right plays and even scored once. He threw a pass to his brother to set up another score, which was the team's first completion, and helped stop advancing dwarf runners. The team had high morale, thanks to the work and play-calling of Knucklebone. They may be one step closer to sending them home...
The second game was going great until the accident. Knucklebone had called the right switch play and the team scored. But at the start of the second half, an angry fan threw a large rock at Knucklebone and it smashed his hand. The team, without his guidance, conceded a touchdown and only managed to tie the game. Futhermore, Knucklebone picked up a niggling injury and would have to miss the next match. As he was being carried off, he swore he saw some of his former townsfolk in the crowd around the area where the rock had come from...
