Rod Steelman has been with Coach Mack Shanahan since before the NAFL team was organized. Steelman was the star catcher for the New Rules Football team of the Mannerheim Men, the only player allowed to use his hands, before they were reorganized into the original style of play. Coach Shanahan new he had to keep those hands and the speed that was hidden in the legs, since in NRF the Catcher does not generally leave the area known as the Box that surrounds the “goal.” Once the team converted its style of play Coach Shanahan knew that he had a talented guy at this position.
