Asdonk was a student at Berlin's Free University when she joined up with Horst Mahler's new urban guerrilla band in the spring of 1970 (shortly thereafter the band rescued Andreas Baader from prison custody and it acquired the moniker "Baader-Meinhof Gang"). Asdonk trained with the rest of the group in Jordan, but was captured along with Mahler in October of 1970.
