Grandfather of Pippin Took and Merry Brandybuck. Adalgrim Took was the son of Hildigrim Took and Rosa Baggins Took. He was born in 2880. His wife's name is not known. Adalgrim had four daughters, the youngest of whom was Esmeralda Took Brandybuck, mother of Merry. Adalgrim's only son was Paladin, father of Pippin. Adalgrim died in 2982.
Adalgrim was never Thain of the Shire, but his son Paladin became Thain on the death of his cousin Thain Ferumbras III, who had no children.
