A great player and a fine example of a top scorer. John "Speedy" Valdez had a fine career ahead of him until in only his third outing with the Cardinals he tripped in the final seconds of the game. He was attempting a risky play to save face from a 2-0 defeat. Unfortunately he seemed to become distracted at the last moment and dodged straight into a broken bottle hurled onto the field by a fan. Valdez's running shoes are now kept in the top drawer of the small "Cardinals Museum of Hope" entry free on Thursdays.
