Davish Krail, nicknamed "Pops," was a veteran Y-wing pilot who flew for the Rebel Alliance during the Battle of Yavin as Gold 5.
The Battle of Yavin
During the battle, he was part of the first group who flew into the Death Star trench. As Gold 2 took the point, he was followed by Gold Leader, who formed a buffer for enemy fighters. Gold Leader, a former TIE pilot, decided that the three fighters should stay close together to make the mission a success. Davish had told him this was a mistake, but he respected Gold Leader's authority. As Gold 2 was locking his targeting computer, Darth Vader shot him down. This caused Gold Leader to panic. Krail, the old veteran, tried to calm him. But Gold Leader, trapped in close formation, screamed that he couldn't maneuver, and was an easy target for Darth Vader. This left him in a dangerous position, being the only remaining Gold member in the trench.
In a last attempt to save the mission, he contacted Red Leader and informed him: "Lost Tiree, lost Dutch. They came from behind." He pulled out of the trench because he could not finish his run on his own. He was promptly shot down by Darth Vader, who scored a hit on his engines. His fighter broke up and exploded in moments.

Krail was played by Graham Ashley.
In a parody of his famous line, in the game Warcraft 3, when a Dwarven Flying Machine is shot down, the pilot will scream: "They came from behind!"
Leia Organa refers to Gold 5 as "Talos Merkin" in Star Wars Journal: Captive to Evil.
