Hosts of the 1950 FIFA World Cup. This was the fourth staging of the World Cup, and the first staged in 12 years due to World War II.
It was also the first tournament that the trophy itself would be referred to as the Jules Rimet Cup, to mark the 25th anniversary of Rimet's presidency of FIFA. It was won by Uruguay, who had won the inaugural competition in 1930, clinching the cup by beating the hosts Brazil 2-1 in the deciding match of the four-team final group (this was the only tournament not decided by a one-match final). Uruguay's victory over Brazil is regarded as one of the biggest upsets in sports history, commonly known as the Maracanazo.

Champions in:

Sweden 1958 beating the hosts 5-2 in the final and becoming the forth nation to raise the trophy and the only nation to win outside their own continent

Chile 1962 beating Czechoslovakia 3-1 in the final. This saw Brazil as the third double winning Nation and equal Italy's feat of retaining the title.

Mexico 1970 beating Italy 4-1 in the final where either side could have become the first nation to take 3 titles.

USA 1994 beating Italy again this time 3-2 on penalties after extra time finished 0-0. After a gap of 24 years, which saw Italy draw level, once again Brazil became the most victorious world cup nation.

South Korea & Japan 2002 beating Germany 2-0 in the only world cup to have been joint hosted and the first in Asia.

The most succesful World Cup Nation with a current tally of 5 titles. Brazil are the only winning nation not to have won on home soil (which may well be rectified when they get the chance in 2014)
.
Brazil are also the only nation to have won the FIFA World Cup outside of their own continent and in fact have titles from all 4 host continents (S America, N Amreica, Europe & Asia)
