Knuckles really wasn't much of a ballplayer. He had only the dimmest concept of the rules of the game, or for that matter that it even was a game. He relied heavily on shouted commands from his teammates to help him figure out which way to turn and who to punch.
Often he would loose interest in the game in favour of scratching himself in some highly inappropriate places. Since he usually forgot to remove his spiked glove before doing so, this was a constant source of minor injuries to Knuckles and major laughs to his teammates.

Sadly, one day in a match against some <a href="http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=368929">highly devious elves</a>, Knuckles was carelessly taking a nap at the scrimmage line. Within moments a group of the pointy-eared bastards surrounded him and <a href="http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=5211340">one of them</a> pinched his nostrils shut. Knuckles' vacuous mind never realized that he wasn't breathing and he quietly went to meet his, obviously quite demented, maker.
