Originally, Sam got his nickname on account of his sullen demeanor; a result of him having done nothing noteworthy at all for the first 14 professional team games.
The team tried cheering him up by giving him an MVP award, but this seemed to only depress him more. He had a distinct lack of confidence and thought himself a worthless drag on the team.

Then, something changed. In <a href="http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&op=view&id=2755331">a game against some horrific chaos beasts</a>, Sam had ended up with the ball and in a fit of desperation tossed it towards <a href="http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=5368779">"Magic Hands" Jackson</a>. True to his name, Jackson took firm hold of the ball and ran it in for a touchdown. For the team the result was a victory, for Sam; a complete reorganization of his mental universe. Rather than seeing himself as incompetent, he now realized that his failures had been the result of other people holding him back.

He now directs his aggression outwards, against all those pathetic swine that stand in his way on the field. It is now his firm decision that whatever needs to be done for team to succeed, he will do it. Some of his team mates have begun saying that his name should now be changed to Sado-Sam.
