The phoenix is a mythical bird and associated with the god of the sun. Each morning at dawn, she bathes in the water and sings such a beautiful song that the sun-god stops his chariot to listen. There exists only one phoenix at a time. When the phoenix feels death approaching, it builds a nest of aromatic wood and sets it on fire, and is consumed by the flames. When phoenix is burned and consumed, a new phoenix springs forth from the pyre. Phoenix then embalms the ashes of its predecessor in an egg of myrrh and deposits the egg on the altar of the sun god.

As death is always approaching on the Blood Bowl pitch, the pyre is kept in the dugout with the apothecary nearby to set it alight if needed.
