<a href="http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&op=view&player_id=7566853">Messerschmidt</a> always brought in a crowd, a well-paying crowd, so when the ball-carrying minotaur finally kicked the bucket, someone on the team made a snap decision to keep the fans in the dark about Messerschmidt's death, and so Messerschmidt's corpse was quickly carted off-field and a replacement minotaur of a similar brutish stature was found as a stand-in. However, the fans did notice, perhaps partially due to the stand-in not seeming interested in the ball at all, but in all fairness, probably mostly due to it being a horrible idea to paint the jet-black fur of the stand-in red, in order to make him pass as the old Messerschmidt, and then sending him out to play Blood Bowl in the rain.
