Mikey was born on 15th August 1972 and grew up in Coolock in Dublin He was the youngest of seven children from what he referred to "as quite a musical family". He attended stage school from the age of 5 to 15 and at 16 bought his first guitar and started song writing.

Before Mikey joined Boyzone he was working as a mechanic but with his love of song writing and determination to work in show business it was inevitable he was going to do great things, but he probably hadn't imagined it would be in one of the world's most successful bands. He had also been the lead singer in a band called Ivory (which played in local pubs) and? had also worked as a milkman!

Boyzone hit the music scene in 1993 with their debut single in 1993 Love me for a reason which stormed in to the charts at No. 2. Since then they achieved numerous chart hits, top selling albums, many coveted awards (including the Smash Hits Award for Best Newcomer, the prestigious Ivor Novello award for Picture of You and the Record of The Year Award in 1998) and needless to say millions of adoring fans. There can't be many pop acts who have stood the test of time the way in which Boyzone did - their talents have been proven and the group have managed to win the respect that they deserved from far more than just their teenage fans.

Mikey's experiences with Boyzone have of course been priceless; he said that the highlight of being in the band was probably the opportunity to see so many places in the world and to have met so many nice people. Mikey is father to daughter Hannah, born April 30th 1996.

Life after Boyzone... with all this behind him, Mikey felt it was time to pursue a solo career. Having grown up in the 1970's and 80's, he has had a lot of musical influences including U2, Bob Dylon and Eric Clapton.

He released his debut solo single (20th May 2000), You're My Angel.
On 16th April 2001 he released his debut album, Meet Me Halfway, which he wrote entirely by himself although it does include some collaborations.

Mikey is currently working on a film Hey Mr DJ which also stars Mike Reid (Eastenders & Snatch). Filming commenced in October 2002 and is based in London.
