Without a shadow of doubt the greatest pole vaulter of all time. Over a 10 year period Sergey Bubka broke the world record an incredible 17 times.
He was the first man over 6m and the only man to have ever cleared 6.10m. His current outdoor world record is 6.14m, his indoor world record is 6.15m.
He won an incredible six world championship golds, to this day the most won in one discipline.
Unbelievably, Bubka suffered from an incredible Olympic curse. In 1984, Russia boycott the (LA) games in response to the US boycotting the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. He won his only Olympic medal, gold, in the Seoul Olympics in 1988. In 1992, he failed his first three jumps, in 1996 he had to withdraw with an injury.
He was the highest pole vaulter in all four Olympic years, in fact between 1984 and 1997 he had the biggest jump in 12 of the 14 years.
