Since the rediscovery of Nuffle's sacred tome by Roze-El, tales of the Blood Bowl teams of the long past have occasionally trickled down though the ages. This is one such story. Three thousand years earlier, the Zandri Eagles were completing yet another successful championship run. Team captain and thrower Josephine Murgle had just won league MVP a third straight season, and had successfully converted their offense to the so-called "basketball on sand" playbook. With the help of two outstanding catchers, the Eagles threw their way into the record books and into the hearts of their elven fans with a rout of the Lustrian All-Star Lizards. The bus ride home was a raucous event. Booze flowed freely. Groupies cavorted with the triumphant players. Bawdy songs were sung. It was a night to remember... right up until the bus driver (who too had been partying it up) missed the turn on Dead-Mans Curve and the team bus went sailing down a 2,000 foot drop to the rocks below. The fireball that went up upon impact could be seen several towns away. None survived, and the Eagles were buried in a crypt surrounded by other heros of blood bowl past from various teams. Millenia pass, and a young acolyte of Nagash receives a dream about the past and future glory of a flaming bus. The scribes and priests debate long into the night, and after discovering a newspaper clipping in a long-forgotten dusty tome, they set about finding the crypt and raising the Eagles. But Nagash's blessing extended not only to the Eagles, but also to others from other teams also buried there. The magic was strong, with the resurrected players literally jumping out of their tombs. With that, the Zandri Dust was reborn... Season 8 Recap: The Dust sook off the, well, dust, of their graves and charged headlong into their first season in the KPL, holding their own against most comers all season (aside from a valiant effort against tournament champion Ka-Sabar Revengers, and a close loss to the undead Lizards of the Rasetra Bonelords), taking second in the Great Mortis conference regular season. The Dust won their opening playoff game, but fell just short to second-overall vampire team Bhagar Full Moon. No confirmation yet on whether it was the Dust who complained about the scourge of vampires currently plaguing the KPL and spurring King Settra to act. There are also rumors that there is infighting in the Dust's clubhouse, as former pro elf star QB Josephine Murgle was seriously outshined last season by Priest of Nagash Preston Dafyd - though we can confirm that the three dust goblins killed by the Dust last season were raised by Dafyd and conscripted as his personal food tasters. |
