Introduction The Slann had a long and complicated history with Blood Bowl. Their athleticism and Blitzkrieg tactics made them compulsive viewing. Deep in the Lustria jungle a small band of Slann were itching to get back onto that hallowed astrogranite. They may be a little out of practice, and they couldn't quite remember when they stopped playing1, but all they needed was an inspiration and an opportunity. When that moment came nothing was going to get in their way. The divisive and tokenistic CIBBL+ rules limiting team by race, and the presence of the Chupayotl Croakers was not going to stop them. They would not go quietly into he night, they would fight the Power! Pioneers, Revolutionaries, Trailblazers. Call them what you want..... they Smashed the System! For the first time in CIBBL and CIBBL+ history, the governing body caved and allowed two teams from the same race to play in the same competition2. They even made changes to the registration rules to allow their loyal Temple Guards to join them on the pitch. A historic victory over oppression and what should be the first of many glorious wins for the underdog! May many follow in their footsteps... Notes Note 1 This was of course because they died, but shhhhhh don't tell them.....who knows what finding that out would do to somebody Note 2 The official position of CIBBL+ Management may offer an alternative viewpoint Dawn of Ioh Semikakoatl0 How long is too long? To answer that question you need a term of reference1. The Slann knew the Old Ones had been gone for a while but try as they might they couldn't work out for how long2. Had they ever even been there at all? The passage of time had always been a little bit of an enigma to the Slann. They were aware that something had changed at some point but just couldn't put their fingers on what. Yes, they all felt that bit slower, that bit less mobile. Yes, they all looked a little3 older, greyer, and more frail, but that's just the process of aging, right? Right!? In the absence of an answer they carried on with their mundane existence regardless. That wasn't to say things hadn't changed in the last....err....time period? The Lizardman had taken ownership of many of the temples and cities across Lustria and the Deek4 Headpriest had seemingly cleared off with most of the local resources in his flying pyramid. What remained for the Slann was a ramshackle collection of huts and lean-tos. To call it a town or a village would be 'optimistic'. No one could quite remember when it sprung up but it was clearly after the Old Ones departed. It didn't even have a name, so the locals called it Mixtu’ux5 It was here in Mixtu’ux, where like a fevered dream, the Lol Chilamoob6 came strolling out of the undergrowth, resplendent in pink decorated with a single electric blue flower. With a voice as beautiful as any of the birds nestled in the canopy above, the Prophet told tales of a Great Serpent, both creator and destroyer of all. Whether it was that they were truly broken, or whether it was just the impact of this heavenly messenger, the Slann seized on his every word. Could they even really remember the Old Ones or were they just a distant legend. Lol Chilamoob preached something they could almost taste. Even the few remaining Temple Guards in the group, impassive as always, seemed somehow to be intrigued7. Thus was the dawn of Ioh Semikakoatl Notes Note 0 Translation - Way of the Eternal Serpent Note 1 For example you might be ok boiling an egg for 5 minutes, but you probably wouldn't want to try and hold you breath for as long. Note 2 If only they had followed the teachings of the great Mage Priest J'Walter Whe'Vaslann - "Thou shalt always leave a note!" Note 3 A lot! Note 4 Noone is exactly sure what Deek means but they didn't use it when taking to the Headpriest directly, which probably hints at what it means Note 5 Translation - Nowhere Note 6 Translation - Rose Prophet (further note: the local language appears to have no words for the colour Pink, or the word Faceless) Note 7 To the Temple Guards, was this the real story behind Sotek that the lesser Blue Skins seemed to cling to? Team Lol Chilamoob Little is known about the 'Rose Prophet', other then when he speaks the world listens. The residents of Mixtu'ux fell under his spell immediately, but this was no magic. His message of hope and love uniting and inspiring. Temple Guards (no.13-16) Immovable and impassive the Temple Guard's loyalty to the Slann was unquestionable. If the Slann needed protection, the Temple Guards would be there! Blitzers (no.11-12) Amazing natural athletes, Slann Blitzers have all the potential to be megastars on the Blood Bowl field. Convincing them to "lower" themselves to turn out for the team in Mixtu’ux was not going to be quick. On the other hand, they had something to prove. Rumours abound that they'd lost a yard of pace, declined in dexterity and that you couldn't teach an old dogs new tricks. Maybe it was time to make a mockery of those doubters! Catchers (no.9-10) Slann Catchers are up there with the most thrilling acrobatic players to ever grace the Astrogranite. The catchers of Mixtu’ux come from a long line of former greats of the game. It's been a while since they played the game but you don't forget how to ride a bike. They'd certainly been putting in a shift working the land in the meantime and were probably stronger than they'd ever been. Nagging doubt as to whether that extra muscle had slowed them and reduced their dexterity and grace were firmly pushed out of their heads. Linemen (no.1-8) The workhorses of the team. Ultimately as soon as enough of these guys were happy to play the rest of the team fell in behind. The Temple Guards couldn't say no, and eventually it will be lead to bringing onboard the more aloof Blitzers.
