West of Scalorn, where Zefraus the Wise and his Guild of Heroes rule, where the quartz-stone miners toil, and where the dragon diggers clean up the messes left by the boldest knights and mages in the realm, lies Bogwood. This festering, half-flooded, rotting forest, which divides the land of men from the foul waters of the Miswampi bog and is generally shunned by human kind, became a refuge for the ogres driven from Mount Pike by Korvis Hammerblow in the time before dragons. Many still claim ogres lack the intelligence, empathy, and the general ability to refrain from mayhem and murder needed to form a civilization, yet evidence indicates that the ogres of Bogwood have organized themselves into something resembling an extended tribe. At the very least, the Bogwood ogres apparently stop killing each other (and the gnoblars who scavenge through their left-over human, dwarf and elven carcasses) long enough from time to time to form families, elect chieftains, and even produce what could be described as art, through a strange practice known as “blood belching.” To be fair, only a psychopath would describe blood belching as art, but no one can deny there is something creative in the act. Unable to digest large quantities of human plasma, ogres have always regurgitated blood after murdering and eating human children, entire families, or once during a particularly lean winter, an entire village. Over time, some ogres have learned to control their blood regurgitation, vomiting blood onto canvases, chuckling like happy and confused children, and spreading the blood around with their hands to form pictures. Known as blood belching, these “paintings” generally depict extreme violence, crude humor, and (most often) representations of various creatures defecating. However, the images have been recognized as an indication of intelligence, creativity, and even culture among the Bogwood ogres. The Bogwood Blood Belchers’ name pays homage to this art form, as the team aims to strike a blow for ogre respect and understanding throughout the wider lands. Formed to promote ogre culture with the hope that Zefraus the Wise will one outlaw the genocidal practice of heroes “questing” in the ogres’ homeland or that the Gildvale nobles will see fit to invest gildcoin in gentrifying their forest, the Bogwood Blood Belchers travel the realm playing Blood Bowl. Their goal—to show the world that ogres are civilized enough to play a team sport (so long as that sport is based on brutality and violence, of course), to demand that ogres no longer be hunted down and killed for sport and glory, and to kindly request that ogres be allowed to eat an occasional human child from time to time. These are hopes and dreams of ogres everywhere. And these hopes rest on the sturdy, bloody-spiked shoulders of … your Bogwood Blood Belchers! |
