This team is a legacy to a nearly unknown story, from a far away region... Once upon a time, before the Empire and all the countries we know as of today were built, a group of human settlers went south in hope of finding the magical place to settle and build a city for themselves. This group was led by a veteran of war, Al Ashrad, which meant in their tongue "The Mighty". After years of traveling through the wilderness, the settlers reached a large desert of sand. Unwilling to go back and make this trip worthless, they listened to the courage in their heart and went in, knowing that the upcoming trip was going to be the hardest part of their travel, but somehow they knew that the hardest of challenge gives the best of gifts. Months passed as the group walked through the infinity of sand, under the harsh gaze of the sun. Many died out of exhaustion and thirst. Althought after what seemed to be years, the group saw in the horizon something different than the sands they were looking at since the beginning. Far away in front of them, a bit to the left, they saw what seemed to be a mirage. Something like a huge cloud at land height. Al Ashrad ordered to group to stop where they were, wishing to take the night before taking a decision: Going into and see, or go around it in search of something more secure. ...That night, in one of the camp tents, was sleeping Urshuk, a man without land that decided to join the group in hope of wealth and glory. On that night Urshuk was unable to sleep for some reason. He was nervous, but he coudn't know why. He was feeling as if someone was spying on him over his shadow. He was hearing the wind blowing the sand outside and the rare sounds of the few animals living in the desert, but ... suddenly, the sounds went away and nothing but silence filled the tent. He started to panic when he saw a man standing in his tent, watching him. The man was tall and Urshuk was unable to see his face, but for some reason he felt that the man was not there to harm him. The stranger lifted his arm and opened his wrist with a strange dagger that he held in his other hand....Blood spurted on the floor of the tent and a voice filled Urshuk's mind. "If you want your people to live and find the magical place they are dreaming of, you will drink this blood and come into the mist. Forget your fear, you are not meant to be mortal for too long. Accept my gift and rule here, or refuse and witness your friends experience horrible death before I take you as my puppet and slave. This solitude have grown insupportable, I won't accept you to slip away" And the man disapeared, the blood on the floor slowly spilling toward the lying Urshuk. Urshuk blinked and shaked his head as if it was a dream, but the blood was still there. He sighed and started to be scared, not knowing what to do. What if that mist was inhabited by something too strong for them. He was trying to find a solution, but the solution found him when the silence left the tent, to give place to the horrible scream of one of the children. For some reason the creature decided that him, Urshuk, would decide the faith of his friends. And thus he moved his fingers toward the blood at his feet and tasted it. He felt a rush like he never felt, as if his spirit was raising over his body, watching the area around like a game of dominos. And the rush stopped, but his attention was toward the mist. He went out of the tent, the people of the camp were going where the scream was heard, but he did not cared on that moment, he gazed at the horizon and left the camp. The day after Al-Ashrad ordered to bury the dead child, and to count everyone of the camp to see if there was anyone missing. They found out fast enough the missing Urshuk. They saw the blood and no body, so believed Urshuk to have been kidnapped. Easily enough they started to believe there was someone, or something inside that mist. The majority of the people, scared, wanted to leave the area as fast as possible, but Al-Ashrad, a soldier and a man of honor wanted to find back Urshuk or avenge the death of the child if possible at all. As the evening was getting closer he made a speech to the group, asking them to stay and go into the mist, to see who, or what kidnapped their friend and killed the child. Some listened to their courage and decided to go with their leader, but the majority packed up and left. The small group that left traveled for a few hours toward the mist, decided to kill whatever took the life of their friends. As they reached the mist edge although, a shadow came out of it. The shadow showed itself and looked like Urshuk, but with something more. Like an aura of confidence and power around him, and even Al-Ashrad, a soldier that saw many horrors, felt the power filling him as Urshuk approached. Urshuk spoke. "Welcome my friends, I am glad that you accepted the invitation of our host. Inside this mist lies a magical land full of promises, and my friend, our friend, grants us this paradise in exchange for our company. Over are those painful travels my friends, we found our dream. Come in now, I already made sure that there was no danger. There is none, at all. As for you beloved leader, we must speak, our Host wants to meet the man that brought us here, and thank him with a gift no human ever thought to own" And he smiled, and Al-Ashrad felt compelled to follow. And thus the settlers went inside the mist, as if hypnotized by a power greater than what they could conceive. They did not even hear the cries and screams behind them, as monsters of rage fell on those that wanted to leave. After an hour of walk within the thick mist, guided only my their instinct, they finally saw what was within. A huge mountain, too high in fact to be hidden by the mist alone. Magic, great magic was at hand here, but they were too beguiled by was they were seeing. A river was coming down from the mountain, creating a pool of hot water at its feet. The heat of the desert and the pool was creating this huge mist. They started to settle as if the place was their home since generations, feeling at home, for once. A few days after, Al-Ashrad and Urshuk came back. The same aura of power around Urshuk, but Al-Ashrad too. They smiled upon the crowd and Al-Ashrad spoke. "Welcome home my friends. We will never be able to thank our host enough in our lifetimes, nor in our child and grand-child lives. The traitors have been killed to calm his anger, but you, my friends, have made the good choice. Let also thank our friend Urshuk, because without him, never we would have crossed this mist." And the crowd started to shout altogether "Ur-Shulgi" which means "The Great"...and since then Urshuk is known as Ur-Shulgi. Centuries passed since that event. Many generations passed and grew, learning to live with their powerful leaders. The men and women died, but the few ones that were chosen to lead, never died. They were vampires, as their host was. Satiating their thirst on the blood of their servants, in exchange they were protecting them with their magical powers, by creating the magical mist around the mountain. |
