Ages past, and secrets long forgotten, were the dwarves that had unearthed the trade of forging powerful magical relics. A special branch of dwarves were known quite simply, as the CrownSmith’s. They were the forgers of powerful, event altering Crowns. Kingdoms fell and rose with the ever changing crowns on the heads of power mad beings. The crowns were created deep in the earth, deeper than most dwarves were willing to go. In places were creatures and dark gods existed and were the temperatures were always hot. The powers of the crowns came from these dark sources and only the Crown smith’s could harness and control them. How they controlled these evil powers no dwarf could tell you today. Many a myth surrounds these unknown sources and many an ancient dwarf had confirmed from their own sight of ancient wyrms and unspeakable demon horrors assisting the Crown smiths at the Crown Forge. Why a dwarf would ever want to become a CrownSmith, buried deep in the hottest and most vile recesses of the world, is unknown, in our more "civillized" time. All the crowns they created, have been lost or destroyed. The crown forge was buried in a massive collapse, that some dwarf historians attribute to a great Wyrm, that had escaped the Crown Smiths bondage. All of the Crown Smiths were rumored to have been killed and their secrets with them. Very few modern dwarves remember this history. One dwarf that remembers is Durnim Wyrmwonder, coach, owner, and player of the CrownSmiths Bloodbowl team. He, through generations of family, has been handed down the only remaining tome of Crown Creation, done the "CrownSmith" way. Apparently his long forgotten ancestor, Gurik of Gornith was a Crown smith and had escaped the Cavern collapse. passing on the secrets to his family. His ancestors had been too afraid to look into the book, but Durim is no coward. Today, Durnim’s CrownSmiths play bloodbowl instead of forging Crowns. They live deep in the Muirith Mountains, the original location of the ancient and forgotten Crown Forge. Though many dwarves wonder if the CrownSmiths are really interested in their history of forging crowns, and not this silly business of BloodBowl. Skeptics doubt the sincerity of Durnim Wyrmwonders statements about the Crownsmiths non-involvement with Devils, dragons and searching for the forgotten crown forge. Skeptics believe that playing Bloodbowl would be a great way of gathering the gold to fund such an endeavor. Not to mention a clever front. If truth were told, no one knows if the CrownSmiths are really interested in BloodBowl or in forging powerful crowns. What we do know is that they play a mean game and it’s only a matter of time before they gain the respect and fame that their ancient name bearers had enjoyed. |
