The men of Mannerheim, tired of having their new rules football team beat year after year, changed the method of play in their game. Coach Mack Shanahan instructed them to stop taking falls and start putting the hit back into the game. After the team started laying low its opponents, and getting ejected in every final, the GW decided they would make a fine NAFL team. The men saw this as a new opportunity to bring home a cup. With a fresh start and the Blood Bowl Championship just around the corner, the Men set out to relearn the rules of a proper style of football and the goal of a cup in hand, even if they have to steal it from the winning team!

The followings are clippings from the local newspaper, The Mannerheim Mess!

In their first match in real football the Mannerheim Men played Only Fools and Horses part 4, a dwarven opponent that showed them the ropes of the game, literally, as they had to stitch five of their payers back together after the match. The Dwarves beat the men 0-2 but the Men did make their presence known when Mikahl Puntar put his throwing arm through the Thick Skull of a dwarf. Coach Mack Shanahan knew he picked the right guy for that position he just hope he threw as well as he hit.

The Washington Green Skins (Orc) and the Men met on the pitch and though the casualty stayed low Coach Shanahan had to have a long talk after the game with his star thrower. Puntar failed to complete a single pass during the match. Instead the Blitzer Krandell Willheim stepped up and completed a pass to Rod Steelman for the only score in the match.

The Dark Elf team, The Mystic Flyers, drew first blood with a quick score but the Men struck back by laying an Elf low with a Serious Injury. The Elves turned the tide again though and caused an injury to the Men and eventually scored again. The Men were no match for the speed of the Elves and could barely keep them out of the endzone. They did limit them to only 2 scores but the Men never made it close to the end zone for a score of their own.

Ahuizotl and the Mannerheim Men met for what was sure to be an uneven sided match. The men faced off against the Ogre team with reckless abandon and took it to the depleted Ogres. Star Blitzer Krendell Willheim alone sent 3 players to the Apothecary for recovery. The Men only sustained one injury and were able to beat the Ogre team 3-1.

The Cemical Brothers (Skaven) Beat the Men 0-4 on the Pitch. But the Men got their own score of 4 by taking out that many Rats. Keeping the streets clear of Rats is important to the health of all Mankind.

Against the Lightning Seeds saw another fast team beating the men on the scoreboard as they lost 1-2. Either team sustained only 1 casualty and the Men could not keep pace with the speedy Wood Elves to make a second score.

The Dark Elf Team, the Church of Industrial Saints, introduced the Men to pain and suffering as a lopsided casualty count in favor of the Elves seriously hurt the chances of the Men. Brock Nocain was killed on the pitch and 3 others sustained Serious Injuries. The Men continued to fight for their fallen and kept the score to a respectable 2-1 loss.

The second Orc team the Men would face, the Southern Waste Outcasts, were equally as destructive to the Teams moral as the Dark Elves had been. Killing Wallace Nig in te first few minutes of the match put te men in a funk and the team let the chance of scoring the Tying score fell just out of reach of Rod Steelman’s out stretched arms.

Grash’Ma Killga’Maas was laid low with a blow that left his upper body laying beside his lower, however the Apothecary was able to take an injury time out and sew him back together allowing him to finish the match. The Lizardmen team, Piattole, put the hurt on the Men again as two other players were badly hurt and the Men never scored a point in the match. This was the fifth shutout in 9 games and Coach Shanahan wondered about their chances for the Cup. He knew he had to do something to get his team playing like champs. The purchase of two new lineman wasn’t enough to help their chances here.

The second Skaven team the men played, the Imhotep Worshippers, were not as quick as the first but they proved much more deadly. Thomas Beckman suffered fatal injuries against the Rats and the Men suffered another devastating shutout.

Up To 32x Multispeed (Amazon) put 8 boots into Grash’Ma Killga’Maas chest as four of the women gang tackled the helpless Ogre marking the 5th straight game the Men had suffered a death to the team. The Apothecary was able to take an injury time out again for the Men’s most expensive player and pump the life back into him for him to finish the match again escaping the grave. The Men were limited to their hits and were defeated in yet another shutout 0-1.

Back to Back matches vs Amazon must have done something for the Men of Mannerheim as they scored their first point in 5 games and walked away the winner when not enough of the women were able to take the pitch and they abandoned the game before the second half could start. Coach Mack Shanahan Told his team at half time that they way they were hitting today was how he expected every match to go, if they did that the rest of the league would need to get ready to accept them as the world champions before the end of the season.

The Men played against an equal opponent vs the Human team Knights Out. The speech the coach gave at halftime during the last match must really have stuck as the Men came out hitting and hitting hard. Almost every block landed a Knight off the pitch for recovery. The Knights did land a fatal blow on Blitzer Marcus Berrellii in hopes of finish his career with out a ring but the same Apothecary that had stitched up the Ogre on the team multiple times was there again for the Blitzer and got him back in the game before is heart could beat its last. The Men won their second match in a row sparking new life to the team.

The Men took on the Pussycat Dolls and showed signs of slowing in the match. The Men got out pushed vs the Dolls, never showing the same muscle of the last two matches. Coach Shanahan said after the match, “This team has skill, we just got to put it out on the pitch.” If the Men don’t get back to playing like they did on the other matches then it is certain they will fall in a funk like before.

The Men matched up against the Norse team, Biblical Bashers, and what a miss match it was. From the start the men were being hammered. Even when offered a blitz on the initial kickoff, the Men just couldn’t land a hit until just before Halftime. Star Blitzer Krandell Willheim laid a blow that would have taken anyone out of the game. The Norse player would have been if not for the aid of the Apothecary to keep him in the match. The Men couldn’t seem to keep themselves off the pitch as the Norse but a 6-1 casualty count and a 0-3 score to hand the men yet another loss. Coach Shanahan only statement to Wolf Sports, “They knocked us down and when we got back up they knocked us out!”

The speed of the rats ran up the score but the muscle they displayed is the story of the night. Keeping the Men on their backs and never letting them get onto the other side of the pitch until the last play of the game. The Ogre, Grash’Ma Killga’Maas was the teams stand out player when a multiple block put the 2 blocked players off the pitch with bad injuries. “The only enjoyment,” one fan said, “was that the rats could only put eight players on the pitch to fins the match.” This makes the streak official for the Men as they fell to the Quad Skulls 0-4.

In their first match vs an undead team, The Dunwich Horror, the Men faced an difficult, if not impossible task. They held on to only sustain 2 injuries one of which, starter Grandell Murklem, suffered a broken jaw. In the end the Men could not find the endzone once again as time ran out as Thrower Puntar lobbed a long pass over defenders into the Undead territory to Star Catcher Steelman. Once again the Men find themselves in a slump with little chance of finding a way out.

The Men met against yet another Dark Elf team, The Minions of PIG, who again had more push than Mannerheim. The Men could not find the ground beneath them for assistance in blocking but rather felt its fury as they were relentlessly pounded into it. The D-elves ran all over the men running up the score 0-4.

The Men Score a Victory! Want You Bad, (Human) just couldn’t hang on to the ball. It was a wet and slippery match that left only the team with the best hands winning it all. Star Thrower, Mikahl Puntar, was unanimously proclaimed match MVP as he led his Men over the Want You Bad squad 1-0. The hitting was abundant, though, only Blitzer Marcus Berrellii suffered any serious injuries. However, the team Apothecary was busy and even ensured no one died in the match even if the stats say so!

The Men faced off vs The Kaizers All Stars (Orc) and from the go were pushed around again. The Men could not land any hits to help their cause and as many times as they got into Orc territory the Men were sent to the pitch. The Men kept from sustaining any major injuries once again thanks to their illustrious Apothecary. Once again though, the Men failed to keep the Kaizers out of the end zone and the Orcs ran up the score 0-3.
