Team Colours: Gold and Red Team Symbol: The numbers four and nine, linked. Head Coach/Owner: Marko Balko Players: Human Home Stadium: Candlewick Park Team Sponsors: RiddHell Equipment 2449 – Following a popular and highly lucrative visit by the Blood Bowl team, The Marauders, who played an exhibition match in the Colony the year before, the powerful Gold Merchant Guild in the city decided to form a Blood Bowl Team. The Guild Council “hired” a selection of ruffians and other suitable stock for playing Blood Bowl from the Dock Workers and various Sailors who were offered fairly large “enticements” (Read: Bribes!) to play for the newly formed team. Being an unimaginative sort of bunch, the council settled on 49ers after the year they were formed as the team name after much heated discussion. Other suggestions included “Gold-Diggers”, “Gold Leafs” and “Cowboys” (The Council Member who suggested that name, has not been seen or heard from since that meeting!) The team colours were decided on as the Guild believed that the teams colours should reflect wealth of the Guild, so all team helmets and armour were made out of solid Guilder gold and the team jerseys were made using a large quantity of red silk left over from the City’s Silk Merchants. The team’s pants were even with gold thread! It was then the council realised that the new team needed a place to play! Luckily, there was an old Amphitheatre, built in ancient times, that was in good condition still, in the Candle Makers District of the City. The team took ownership of this “Stadium” and refurbished it. The Stadium was named “Candlewick Park” in honour of the local District. However, disaster befell the team just before their first game against The Marauders team, who were invited back to play the new Sudenburg team. Having practiced in old, used second hand Blood Bowl kit up until now, the owners delivered the teams new kit for their first ever game. It arrived whilst the players were getting ready in the changing rooms and when those ruffians and mercenary sailors took one look at all that solid gold, every single one decided to take their own allocated kit and make a run for it! Suffice to say, those players and the kit were never seen again. The Marauders were so angry at being made to wait that they left and vowed never to return to this “amateurish village!” The team was formally disbanded the day after the game that never was and the Guild Council was wholly replaced after the humiliating debacle. 2505 – A young Guild Councillor, Marco Balko, managed to stage a bloodless coup and take sole control of the Gold Merchants Guild. Having grown up with stories from his Father about the former Blood Bowl team Sudenburg almost once had, Balko decided to plough his own fortune into restarting the franchise. He revived the team name, refurbished Candlewick Park and brought in a sponsor for the team who also provided new equipment and kit for the squad. This time, Balko hired respectable Merchant Traders and members from the Gold Guild as players and signed them to short, but very lucrative playing contracts. He also decided to fulfil his life-long dream of being a Blood Bowl player and became one of the teams Throwers. 2506 – So after a year of hard practice, the team have joined the local Association of Raiders and Enclaves Nuffle Armorical Football League (ARENA Football League) and have a fresh outlook, a great fan base and are looking forward to the beginning of good things to come. They also have a new kit. Though this time, the armour is gold plated! Which means, of course, the players can even run in their new kit this time! |
